Sister M. Bernadette Lavocat, teacher in Diocese of Buffalo


Lavocat Lavocat Sister M. Bernadette Lavocat, 92, of Amherst, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018.

Born Margaret Mary Lavocat in Amherst, she entered the congregation in 1945, having been educated by the Sisters of St. Francis at St. Mary’s, Swormville; St. Gerard’s, Buffalo; and Neumann High School.

As a Sister of St. Francis, she served as a teacher in various schools from 1946 to 1965 in the Diocese of Buffalo. This includes: St Gerard’s, St. Mary of Sorrows, St. Nicholas, St. Francis of Assisi (Buffalo), Most Holy Redeemer, St. Francis (Tonawanda) and Infant of Prague.

From 1965 until recently, Sister Lavocat continued her work in a ministry of community service at St. Mary of the Angels.

Sister Lavocat is survived by one sibling, Mary Jane Krantz. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Frances Donohue, Agnes Heim, Sister Ann Marie Lavocat and Albert Lavocat.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 9 in the chapel of St. Mary of the Angels. Arrangements were made by the Amigone Funeral Home Inc. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities.
