Student awarded scholarship

St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute has named Cole Schneider, class of 2008, of Williamsville, a recipient of the 27th annual Phil Scaffidi Alumni Scholarship for the 2007-08 school year.

He shares the honor with Philip Scaffidi, class of 2008, of Buffalo.

The award is typically given to an incoming senior who participates in multiple sports, exemplifying dedication, determination and desire, as well as to a student who has demonstrated good citizenship in the community and at St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute.

Schneider has been actively involved in the St. Joe's sports program, excelling in the areas of hockey and baseball. He also plays hockey for the Buffalo Regals Travel Team and baseball for the American Legion. At St. Joe's, Schneider is a member of the Big Brothers program and the Hispanic Cultures Club. He has performed community service at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and is a parish member of St. Mary's in Swormville.

Scaffidi is the captain of the football team and a member of the basketball team. He is the nephew of the late Phil Scaffidi, for whom the award is named.
