The Foundation for Quality Care's First Line Nurse Manager Program was recently completed by 21 Western New York nurses, including: Kristen Bohin, unit manager at Elderwood Health Care at Oakwood in Amherst and Maureen McCooey, supervisor of Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Amherst.

U.S. Ambassador to Peru P. Michael McKinley recognized the efforts of the Hope for Tomorrow Foundation at the Lima, Peru, International Airport recently. The Amherst foundation completed 20 cleft palate and lip surgeries for children and 10 cataract surgeries for elders.

The Magic Tree House Club for young readers will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Barnes & Noble, 4401 Transit Road. The club will discuss "Twister on Tuesday," in which Jack and Annie are whisked to a midwestern prairie in the 1870s. Call 634-1011.
