Garden Walk committee seeks participants for July 21 event

The third annual Town of Amherst Garden Walk will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21.

The Garden Walk committee is looking for residents to welcome the community into their gardens for a visit.

In past years, more than 40 homeowners have volunteered their gardens and hundreds of visitors have toured them.

“This year we are hoping to add to the numbers, and we welcome gardens of all sizes and types to join our tour,” said Lois Weinstein, chair of this year’s event. “Touring your neighbor’s gardens gives you the opportunity to see what grows well in your area, in your soil and even the sun direction.”

Shesaidgardenwalkparticipants can learn much from gardeners.

“If you are looking to put in a pond or grow your own vegetables, you can see how your neighbors have done it already and learn from their successes and mistakes,” Weinstein said. “We have all had them and are only too willing to share, and it is all free.”

Anyone who would like to add their garden to the exhibit this year may email Gardenwalk@ amherst.ny.us for an application or contact the Supervisor’s Office at 631-7032.
