Emeritus to host fire service presentation

Emeritus at Bassett Park Manor will host a free presentation on the fire service in Amherst at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at 111 St. Gregory Court off Maple Road. Volunteers from the East Amherst Fire Department will give an overview of the EMS system, a presentation on new fire service tools and equipment, and answer questions. Register by calling 689-2394.

Amherst Garden Club plans flower show

Asmallstandardflowershowwill be presented by the Amherst Garden Club from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at St. John Lutheran Church, 6540 Main St. near Youngs Road. The show is free of charge.

Denny’s fundraiser benefits Autistic Services

A fundraiser will take place at Denny’s, 4445 Main St. near Harlem Road, from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 23. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of pre-tax receipts to Autistic Services. The funds will be used to purchase iPads for nonverbal students.

Jane Monheit to perform at Williamsville East

Jazz vocalist Jane Monheit will perform at Williamsville East at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23. Staff, students and professional musicians who live in the area will join her onstage. Tickets cost $14. The school is located at 151 Paradise Road.

Memorial to flight crash victims to be unveiled

Businessman Russell Salvatore will unveil a memorial dedicated to the victims of Flight 3407 in his Heroes and Patriots Park on Transit Road near Wehrle Drive at noon Thursday, May 24. The park is located in front of his businesses, Russell’s Steaks, Chops & More and Salvatore’s Grand Hotel. The park also features a memorial to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and military personnel.

One-act plays planned at Williamsville South

Williamsville South High School drama department presents its annual evening of student directed, one-act plays at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24, in the school auditorium, 5950 Main St. at Hirschfield Drive. Admission is free.

Dog wash to benefit Alzheimer Association

Emeritus Senior Living will host a dog wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the corner of St. Gregory Court and Bassett Road across from Bassett Park. For a $5 donation, Emeritus employees and volunteers will wash and dry dogs. Hot dogs and soft drinks will also be sold, and there will be a basket raffle. Proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY.

Garden Clubs offer weekend plant sale

Forest Stream Garden Club and Town and Country Garden Club will hold a plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Evanstown Plaza on Evans Road near Sheridan Drive. Members will be available for questions and information on planting and gardening. The sale takes place rain or shine.

Calvary Episcopal to host grief support group

Calvary Episcopal Church, 20 Milton St. at Cayuga Road, will hold a Good Grief support group at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26. The program offers fellowship and support to anyone who has suffered any type of significant loss. The group is free of charge and open to the public. For further information, call 633-7800.

Barbecue planned at Lovejoy Church

Lovejoy Church is having a fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27 at the church, 5423 Genesee St., east of Harris Hill Road, in Lancaster. Proceeds will pay for a mission trip to Mexico. Chiavetta's chicken dinner will be available eat-in or take-out. Tickets are $8.50 in advance or $9 at the door. Call Robin Schott at 634-7660.

Legislator Rath to hold outreach meeting

Erie County Legislator Edward A. Rath will host a district outreach meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 29, at Amherst Senior Center, 370 John James Audubon Parkway, to meet with residents to discuss county issues and share information. Scottish Country Dance classes scheduled

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society of Buffalo offers dance classes from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Highway, Snyder. The first two classes are free. The rest are $6 per class. For information, call 930-0750.

Hebrew conversation group chats weekly

Hadassah’s Hebrew conversation group, Ksat Ivrit, is offered at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at the Amherst Jewish Community Center, 2640 N. Forest Road. The group is open to anyone who would like to sharpen his or her Hebrew language skills. Call 688-4114 for information.

Overeaters Anonymous schedules meetings
