One-hundred seventy-five runners were joined by 43 walkers in competing in the second annual Greg Stang Memorial 5K Run and Fun Walk July 26 at Bassett Park in Williamsville.

Lydia Stang served as the honorary starter.

Proceeds benefited the Greg Stang Memorial Scholarship Fund. Organizers expect the net proceeds to exceed $10,000.

One hundred basket raffles, a 50/50 raffle and silent auction prizes valued at over $5,000 were awarded.

A post-race party awarded gold, silver and bronze medals to male and female runners in each of 20 age and grade groups.

Trophies were given to overall male and female winners, with their names inscribed on the “Coach Stang Reese’s Cup.”

Music was played by Lockport coach and race participant Rick Pytlik.

Mr. Stang, North’s longtime cross-country and track coach, died Dec. 23, 2013. He was named ECIC Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005, as well as Section VI Coach of the Year in 2005.

The course marshal was Williamsville North boys cross-country coach Brian Lasher. West Seneca West cross-country and track coach Emilio Mancino and his wife, Jennie, also participated.

Results were tallied by Score This! Timing Services.

McQuade Milligan, a Spartan alum and incoming junior cross-country and track runner at St. John Fisher College, and Naomi Wistner, an incoming freshman at North, were named male and female winners of the Greg Stang Memorial “Reese’s Cup” in times of 16 minutes, 37 seconds and 19 minutes, 59 seconds, respectively.
