Man dies following rollover crash

An Orchard Park man reportedly died Tuesday from injuries related to a crash days earlier on westbound Interstate 290 near the Niagara Falls Boulevard exit ramp.

AmherstPoliceCapt.Patrick McKenna of the Accident Investigation Unit said the man, Earl C. Besecker, 86, was rounding a curve in his 2014 Honda when the vehicle went off the east side of the ramp.

McKenna explained in a press release that the car went through a grassy area before hitting a concrete barrier. “The barrier directed the car into the air and back onto the ramp, where it spun around and crashed into a guardrail on the west side of the ramp according to witnesses,” he said.

The captain said Besecker was transported to Erie County Medical Center for back and chest pain as well as abrasions. He said high speed around the curve is being considered a factor in the crash.

McKenna added that a medical examiner reported Besecker’s death to police officials.
