Kulpa expected to appoint chief of staff, secretary

It is expected that incoming Supervisor Brian Kulpa will appoint a chief of staff during the Town Board meeting set for Tuesday, Jan. 2.

According to a resolution scheduled to be addressed during the meeting, Joseph McMahon, who led Kulpa's campaign for supervisor, will be named to the post at a salary of $81,800.

It is also expected that Kulpa will appoint Julie Yates as secretary to the supervisor at a salary of about $42,000. A resolution for her appointment is also included on next week's meeting agenda.

During a recent interview with The Bee, Kulpa said that funding for the positions is within the 2018 budget, which was drafted by outgoing Supervisor Barry Weinstein and was unanimously approved by the Town Board.

Kulpa said that Lisa Kistner, who was Weinstein's secretary, will remain in the position for at least several months.

Additionally during the reorganizational meeting, Council Member Francina Spoth is expected to be appointed deputy supervisor. The post carries a stipend of $4,000.

Further details of what is expected to occur at the meeting will appear in the Wednesday, Jan. 3, edition of The Amherst Bee. Due to Bee press time, a full report will not be in print until Wednesday, Jan. 10.
